If there are any beachgoers tugging on your sleeve, a trip to the Three Miles of Golden Sands near the small parish town of Hayle (on the North Coast) will provide plenty of opportunities for sunbathing and seaside excitement, with wind and kite surfing readily available. Surfing fans shouldn’t miss the chance to take on the waves at nearby Newquay, the UK surfing capital. This buzzing seaside town is also home to a well-known zoo that has over 130 different animals on display.
If, on the other hand, you fancy sneaking off for a quick dose of culture, only a short distance away is the small town of St. Ives, which boasts a gallery belonging to the Tate as well as some stunning golden beachfronts. Choosing to stay in a holiday rental apartment, country cottage or a bed and breakfast offers the ideal base to explore and enjoy all of the charming coasting towns of Cornwall, where you can combine a day at the beach with a slice of local historical attractions.
The selection of buildings and monuments around Plymouth can provide entertainment for the whole family, while the Egyptian House in Penzance and the fabulous Men an Toll standing stones near Madron-Morvah are also well worth investigating.
After the cobwebs have been well and truly blown away by the fresh sea air, one attraction that is sure to appeal to all is the famous Eden Project. The traditional concept of a botanical garden is given an added layer of fun and exhilaration, fusing incredibly modern architecture and an astounding 100,000 plants. The Eden Project is the world’s biggest greenhouse, and it’s captivating space-like domes regularly feature a range of festivals, art shows and rock climbing challenges as well as offering visitors the chance to explore the huge range of plants. Plant life doesn’t get more exciting than this.
