More Than Home Sweet Home When it comes to Holiday Rentals

July 6, 2010

We all have visions of crowding around the dining room table with our families at the holidays to enjoy a feast, but imagine having that feast in any number of exotic location. More and more families are spending their holidays at one of the growing number of holiday rentals around the globe. Holiday rentals offer the ability to pack your entire family, both extended and immediate, and visit a great location for the holiday season. A few ideas include:

Mount Rushmore: imagine spending the Fourth of July watching the fireworks in front one of our nations greatest treasures? There are many privately-owned homes in this area that are specifically used for this purpose during the nations Independence Day celebration.

New York City: with the drop of the ball in Times Square what could make a New Years Celebration more complete? There is no shortage of condos in the surrounding area that could be rented specifically to enjoy the massive celebration that occurs every December 31st.

Chicago: this city is perfect in the summer to enjoy one of the many festivals that draw grounds from all over the country and the globe. From the Taste of Chicago to Venetian Nights there truly is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer holidays.

Dallas: the rodeo is an experience quite like any other, and Dallas has housing that is rented out every year when one of the largest rodeos is held.

Los Vegas: unlike any other location, Vegas had an appeal all of its own. Spending Valentine’s Day in this location can be a truly decadent and romantic experience. With all that Vegas has to offer you and your loved one can be pampered to the nth degree and receive the five star treatment.

Honolulu: you haven’t lived until you’ve enjoyed a Christmas celebration that is followed by a walk on the beach where Santa Claus is rowed into shore to bring presented to all the awaiting children.

So before you spend another holiday at home doing the same exact thing you did last year and perhaps the year before, consider something different. Packing up the clan to take advantage of many of these places can be much easier than you ever thought by simply renting a private home for the holidays and enjoying the sights and sounds of an experience so very different from the years you have spent at home.

Beat the Holiday Doldrums This Season with a Holiday Rental

July 5, 2010

Although the traditional thought of a vacation is to simply buy airline tickets and find a hotel in a desired destination, a new approach to rest and relation is becoming more and more prevalent in the hospitality industry. This new trend is of course the increasingly-popular holiday rental. The traditional method of trip selection seems almost as arbitrary as throwing darts into a dartboard and selecting a location at random. Rather than simply picking a destination where you can unwind with your loved ones and friends, why not select a venue that matches all of you needs as well and allows you to lounge about in the lap of luxury.

Villas

You can explore a ton of on line sites and virtual bulletin boards to read the pros and cons of various locations, and view pictures of all that these rental locations have to offer. There really is something out there for everyone. Whether you are looking for something rustic, woodsy with nature, a beachcombers paradise, or a luxury villa, you truly can find exactly what you’re looking for and have the getaway experience that you’ve always dreamed of. The only difference with these trips is the true sense of total immersion into the local culture and surroundings. You have the opportunity to live the life of these people as they live it.

Imagine spending Christmas on the beach with your family as you open up gifts Christmas morning under a palm tree. You don’t have to bundle up for once as you stroll the beach after Christmas dinner in your shorts. A tropical holiday rental can provide you with all of this and more. Or, imagine seeing the News Years Eve fireworks in your shorts from the Sydney Harbor Bridge with thousands of your new Australian friends.

More and more privately-owned single family homes and condos are now available for rent through the holidays. Many of these venues also come with a variety of activities including: surfing, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, water skiing, and scuba diving.

So what are you waiting for? You’ve gone the traditional route and book a suite at a chain hotel. Aren’t you reading for something new and exciting? Isn’t it time you began your research? Although you can read about other peoples trips, there is no substitute for experiencing it for yourself. While a picture may be worth a thousand words, these memories can last a lifetime.

A Spain Accommodation for Business Travel

July 3, 2010

If you have just been informed that you are going to be taking a trip to Spain as a business trip, you are probably thrilled as a result of this exciting news! You will get to spend some time in one of the most gorgeous locations in the entire world, and you’ll be able to make some excellent business connections at the same time. To make sure that you have the best business trip possible, you should give some serious consideration to the Spain accommodation that you choose since it will impact the amount of work you’re able to get done while out of town.

Villas

Talk to your boss about your lodging choices; they might be open to the idea of putting you up in a vacation rental if you explain a few important things about the process to them. First of all, make sure to emphasize the point that they aren’t necessarily more expensive than hotel rooms. Often, if you’re taking a long trip in Spain, you will actually save a bit of money by staying in a rental apartment.

There are other benefits to staying in a rental property that relate to work as well. For instance, you might want to let your boss know that you won’t be able to get as much work done from a hotel room just because there won’t be enough space. If there isn’t even a desk in the room, you won’t be that compelled to get work done while lounging in bed due to a lack of other furniture.

You also might want to make sure that your Spain accommodation comes with Internet access. You can benefit from this amenity by using some of your time on your business trip to actually work from your vacation property instead of going into the office. This is an advantage if you’re able to get lots of things done during the day; you’ll have more time to get out and see the sights.

If you know that you absolutely will have to go into the office every single day that you’re in Spain, then try to find a vacation rental property that is within close proximity to the office. You shouldn’t have to deal with a long commute, especially if you’re in a congested area. If possible, try to find an apartment that is within a short walk to your place of business so that you can get some exercise on your way into the office.

Fitting in on Your France Vacation

June 18, 2010

France does not necessarily have the best reputation with travelers. Derided as haughty and rude, the French are sometimes considered the worst part of a France vacation. The truth is, the French can be just as amazing and wonderful as any other nationality. Within a small country overrun with tourists, the French do not tolerate much from foreigners, and thats how they earned their bad reputation.

France Vacation Rentals

Its best to know the traditions and customs of France before you jet off on your France vacation in order to have the most rewarding trip possible. Knowing the do’s and don’ts will not only let you have a smooth trip, it will let you in to the heart of the residents of this magnificent country.

The first rule for your France vacation is to have an understanding of the language. While you don’t have to master the language, knowing how to say basic things and making an effort to communicate in the native tongue of the residents is a good thing when traveling in any country. In France, its a must. While many French know how to speak English, they consider it insulting when they are expected to speak English in their own country. Trying to speak French, even if it is rusty or imperfect, will be considered a sign of respect and intelligence and you will be treated accordingly.

Know the basic everyday courtesies, and use them when interacting with the French. One of those courtesies is following dress codes. The French tend to err on the side of fashion. Unless you are planning a jog, leave your sneakers at home. Try to strike a balance between comfort on your long days of sightseeing and dressing decently. Avoid shorts if possible unless you are at the beach, and favor blouses and slacks over t-shirts and jeans.

Finally, be polite even when others are being rude. In a city like Paris, where the tourists overwhelm the city every summer, the locals have one bad experience and group all tourists together. Help them break their minds out of negative stereotypes and give a new impression of your country and tourists in general. One of the goals of tourism is to learn about a new place, be exposed to new ideas and to break away from the everyday routine of life. Make your visit a positive experience in your life and the life of others.

Taking Your Dog to the Beach – Tips and Ideas

June 16, 2010

There are so many rules and regulations out there these days, and many of them are for our pets. Even though the general population considers their pet as part of their family, most of the regulations out there are regarding pets and what we can and cannot do with them. If you are considering a trip with your dog this year, you should consider what you can and cannot do with them. This is especially true of beach vacations – so many hotels, beach cottages, condos and beaches themselves regulate what you can do and where you can go with your animal.

pool

For any sort of lodging, from the hotels to rental apartments and beach cottages, you should definitely inquire in advance as to the rules and regulations. Many places will flat out refuse to allow pets in, except for service animals. This is especially true of hotels. Some hotels are becoming more open to allowing pets to stay in the rooms, especially smaller dogs. They will often charge a fee for allowing a pet to stay, and often require a deposit.

Rental properties, including apartments, condos, houses and beach cottages, can be more relaxed and in general go by a place-by-place basis based on the owner’s preferences. Some rentals not only allow pets, but also encourage the owners to bring them by providing dog bowls and crates. Many of these places will still require the renters to put down a deposit and will sometimes still charge extra for allowing a pet to stay in the rental home.

Be careful about the beaches as well. Many beaches will flat out refuse to allow pets onto the beach. This is something you should look into, as you do not want to find out that you will have to leave Fido at home for eight hours a day in a rental place while you frolic on the beach. For the beaches that do allow animals, there are usually regulations that require all animals to be on leashes.

Even if the beach has no posted rules regarding animals, there are a few unwritten rules that should be followed in order to keep the peace. Clean up after your animal on any public beach. Bring baggies along if you are taking the dog to a public beach. Make sure that your animal has the required shots. Finally, keep your dog safe. Don’t leave your dog on a leash in the sun all day long. Keep them hydrated, take them on walks, and make sure they are in the shade when you have them resting.

Greece – Ideal for Holidays or Holiday Homes?

June 15, 2010

The question often gets asked whether it is worth it to invest in a holiday home in one area or another. The answer is, can you imagine settling down there? While a home can be a great investment, our current economic climate tells us that any housing market can fail, even in the most stable areas of the world. Therefore, if you are going to make an investment, you should be prepared to stand by that, in good times or bad.

Villas in Greece

Its much easier to stand by a bad investment if you truly love the location and the holiday home itself. While you might not make a profit, and might even lose some money in the long run, you will still have the joy of vacationing at a low cost in a place that you enjoy. If you think that you could fall in love with part of Greece, than go for it.

Athens is the capital of this country, and therefore has interesting opportunities and a more stable housing market than a vacation town. Its a vibrant city, with a blend of old and new architecture that create a beautiful tapestry of a cityscape.

If you are looking for a house near the beaches, there are a ton of options. Corfu, Crete and Halkidiki are all highly regarded areas for their beaches and secluded cloves. Busies towns like Zante and Rhodes offer beaches with a more active vibe, including bars and nightclubs. For a more historical area, check out Kefalonia, which full of archaeological remains.

If you are cautious, feel free to check out the history of the housing market in the areas you are interested in. Beware of new hot spots – while the market might be hot now, that can quickly change. You might be raking in money for the first few years, but will ultimately have to face the long-term consequences of your decision. Best to fare on the side of caution if you cannot lose the money you invest in a risky vacation property.

Keep in mind the regulations that are in place for out-of-country buyers. Find a reputable agent that can guide you through the process. Its not unusual to buy out-of-country property, but you need the right person to help you figure out the legal and financial steps in order to buy with minimal difficulties. With a bit of help and a bit of confidence, you’ll be living it up in the holiday home of your dreams.

Using a Holiday Home To Boost Income for Retirement

June 12, 2010

Buying a second property is a common ways for a couple to invest in their future and have a bit of income for retirement. When the time comes, they can sell it for a bit of money to help with their golden years. Another option that is becoming more popular is to invest in a holiday home. This lets a couple have a place to vacation, a place to rent out throughout the year, and a place to move to when the time comes.
Apartments in France

A popular location for a holiday home is Costa Rica. As the costs are low for building and maintaining a home in Costa Rica, its a great way to invest dollars or pounds. A buy-to-let property is a great way to pay off this investment. Letting out your place brings in the income to pay it off and to pay for its upkeep. When the time comes, you can move there for your grey years, enjoying the tropical setting with your loved one in a less-expensive environment. Your years of savings will pay off handsomely in a less-expensive setting.

The key to buying a holiday home is to find a location where you would want to live and in a place that you can afford. If you think you can pay off a home after 20 years of consistent letting, be careful. Markets change, tastes move on to new places and you could be left with a hefty mortgage on a place that you might not want to live in during your twilight years.

The thought used to be that home prices would not go down by very much over time, but that has proven incorrect. The worldwide drop in home prices is a good reason to execute caution when buying a vacation home. While over time property prices have gone up, this is not a steadfast rule and the current economic climate should strike a bit of fear into every investor’s heart.

One place where home prices have stayed steady even in this downturn is France. All of France is popular with tourists from around the world. If retiring in the French countryside is appealing, consider this a worthy investment. While it is not a guaranteed moneymaker, it is a relatively safe bet. Remember that the cost of living in France is not necessarily cheaper, and can be more expensive. This means you need even more money in the bank in order to retire in comfort.

Tips for Taking the Kids on a Beach Vacation Rental in Mexico

June 11, 2010

With the economy taking the turn it has and not recovering over the last year, it might seem impossible to take your children anywhere beyond a few blocks from your home. Discounts on international travel are out there to lure the reluctant voyager, and beach vacation rental costs are affordable for most families. A trip to Mexico is a great way to take an international voyage on a budget.

Villas

For the family that wants to travel to Mexico, there are plenty of beach vacation rental properties throughout the country to house a young family with ease. One of the more popular locales is Cancun. You might think that Cancun is chock full of young kids getting drunk, but that is simply not true. There are several family-friendly beaches and activities designed just for the kiddos. Look carefully at the beaches near your rental to ensure you can reach a beach designed for a mixed-age crowd. A good bet is finding a rental located near a family-friendly resort, as you can often pay to get in on some of their family offerings.

Another popular spot in Mexico for the families is Cozumel. The area is full of great beach vacation rental homes, perfect for young families with children. Surrounded by coral reef barriers, its a great spot for snorkeling. If your family is not old enough or interested the underwater world, no worries. There are attractions featuring dolphin shows, a beach with a childrens playground, glass boat tours and catamaran rides – something that every age group can enjoy together.

The area of Puerto Vallarta is a great location for families. It was once a sleepy fishing village, but has grown to be a major resort area. There are plenty of apartments and homes for rent in the area as well. The area is beautiful, with lush vegetation and beautiful beaches with all of the offerings for a young family. The village in the area is full of tiled roofs and historic buildings, making it great for strolling during the cool evenings with the children in tow. The beaches are large and welcoming, with water sports for the older kids and family-friendly nature tours for the younger set. Further inland, horseback riding and flora and fauna tours give you a way to take in the locations natural beauty.

Los Cabos used to be an outpost for pirates waiting for passage, but now welcomes all age groups in a friendly environment. With teeming sea life, the location is great for snorkeling with the fish or catching them for dinner. There are a great number of locations nearby that make for a great adventure, including zoos and other city attractions nearby.

Why You Should Choose Vacation Home Rental in Greece

June 9, 2010

Choosing vacation home rental in Greece is a great advantage for those planning a vacation. Selecting villas or condos from those sized for two people to those sized for up to 16 people for all of your family and friends allows you to get all the space and amenities you need at a reasonable price.

Villas in Greece

Often the vacation home rental you choose will be equipped with everything you could need for a kitchen, but also with a washing machine and dryer, indoor furniture and outdoor patio sets. This is everything, and sometimes more, you would see in any fancy home. With a bit of research, you can find homes with the random household accessories that you require – an espresso machine, feather beds, or Jacuzzi tubs are often in some of these rental properties.

The right vacation home rental has huge advantages over any hotel stay. There is no need to spend your morning bumping into strangers at the breakfast buffet or swimming pool. You don’t need to see if they can make the kind of coffee you prefer – you can choose to make it yourself. No need to follow the strict hotel rules about swimming – go when you want.

If you have friends that are also vacationing in the area, you can invite them over for a dinner party at your place, no problem. And the savings – from doing your own laundry to making your own meals, there are immense savings for those that do it right. The real joy, however, is the experience that you can only have at a rental property. Instead of hoping the hotel still has food at a late hour for breakfast or is playing the right thing on the television, you can make sure that you set your rental house to do these tings.

Make this vacation memorable – bring the comfort, space and control to your vacation that you bring to everything else. This is not at all a problem with a vacation rental! From a small apartment to a large villa, there are a lot of choices out there for a variety of different price points. From a several-bedroom home to a large loft space, you can find whatever works for your group.

Not only can you save on food by renting a property, you can save money on the lodging itself. Undoubtedly cheaper than the daily hotel rate, a rental property is also more willing to be flexible with the rental prices, since they are the owner and have more control over the price of the daily rental fees.

Options For Spain Rentals That Go Beyond Hotels

June 6, 2010

This is for the adventurer: get away from the cookie cutter lodgings and find the right Spain rentals to fit your budget and needs. One of the great options is casas rurales, which means rural houses. These accommodations can vary greatly, from houses to apartments, expensive to basic.

Apartments in Spain

When considering casas rurales for your Spain rentals, keep in mind that the locations are different. They are not necessarily in the country. Some are located in towns, some in the middle of nowhere. This means that a flexible traveler can stay in a variety of locations for cheap, beyond the tourist traps and overcrowded cities.

Like other rentals, the casas rurales options for Spain rentals do not include housekeeping on a daily or weekly basis. If you expect that level of service, a rental might not be the best option for your needs. In addition, there will not be room service or concierge capabilities. If that is what you expect or require, there are plenty of hotels that will cater to these needs.

Many of these home rentals are availed on a weekly basis, which is not ideal for a person that wants to stay on the move. This is not a hard rule, and many will offer shorter-term rentals depending on the season and the property. Talk to the owner or agent to see if you can negotiate something different.

If the property is attached or nearby the owner’s home, they might want to actively be involved in your visit. They might offer to take you sightseeing, prepare you a meal or give you a local gift. If you are looking for this sort of interaction with locals, keep your eye out for that sort of opportunity. Talk to an agent to see if they can recommend something in the area with that sort of owner.

If you do get the opportunity to interact with the locals, enjoy! Those that stay in hotels will rarely get such an up-close glimpse of the area and the people. That can often make a trip more exciting. You might not be seeing all the top-rated tourist attractions, but you will undoubtedly experience Spain in a way that most people don’t get the chance to do.

The best advice for those seeking out casas rurales in Spain is to do as much research as possible, ask questions about the home, its location and its proximity to other homes and towns. You might think that the website tells you everything, but if you don’t ask, you will never know.
