Stag Night Holiday Rentals

January 31, 2010

While holiday rentals might not be at the top of the list when it comes to making a decision as where to spend your hen or stag night, there is certainly something to be said for managing the budget, particularly before the wedding. Choosing to rent self catering holiday apartments, villas or a chalet is an excellent option, where you can combine the flexibility associated with preparing your own meals, with the convenience of popping to the local super market and stocking up on local produce and drinks should you want to start the pre-wedding party early.

Also worth thinking about when choosing accommodation for your stag night is the number of beds or more specifically the number of singles and sofa beds available, rather than traditional doubles or king size beds. While many might be happy to share a double, choosing to rent an apartment or villa with features ‘zip and link’ mattresses (or double beds which can be separated) can often be a great choice.

Another added benefit of a self-catering holiday rental is the range of charming farmhouses in Tuscany and other regions in Italy. The bonus here is that many are set in their own grounds, allowing guests to make as much noise as you like without the danger of disturbing the neighbours.

For a stag night with a twist (and some snow!) check into one of the large chalets in Chamonix or St Gervais and enjoy a wide range of winter sports including skiing and snowboarding to mountain biking and para-gliding. Commonly held as the adrenaline capital of Europe, the town, which is situated at the foot of Mont Blanc, in the French Alps, is an absolute mecca for thrill-seekers promising a rich nightlife of bars, restaurants, two nightclubs and the 7th Heaven Gentlemen Club with its rather controversial table dance show.

As the stag organiser, part of your role is to find accommodation that’s conveniently situated, affordable and of course, welcomes all-male, or for hen nights, all-female, parties. But whatever you are looking for, whether it’s a slice of luxury or simply somewhere to rest after a boozy “last night of freedom”, there is a wonderful range of superb holiday rentals to suit all tastes and budgets. Throughout Italy, Portugal, Spain and France there are a vast number of stag friendly holiday rentals, which combine excellent value, great locations and additional features including swimming pools and large outdoor terraces, perfect for evening barbecues.

So there you have it. Stag friendly holiday rentals with something for everyone. But, prior to booking, don’t forget to check with the individual holiday homeowner as to whether they do in fact accept large single sex parties or indeed whether there is any additional damage deposits, and of course, have fun!

Romantic Paris Apartments

January 30, 2010

With Valentine’s Day already on the horizon, it won’t just be restaurant tables being booked up! Choosing to rent self-catering Paris apartments makes an absolutely superb alternative to traditional hotel stays. Choose from the vast array of studios and centrally located apartments where you can stroll to the beautiful sights of the French capital, or choose a peaceful hideaway in the charming Montmartre district.

Whichever arrondissement you choose, you can enjoy romantic breakfasts in bed using all manner of locally source produce from some of the many outstanding markets including the Saxe-Breteuil market which is held from 7am to 2:30 pm every Thursday and Saturday morning and the lively Richard Lenoir Market, the biggest outdoor market in Paris which begins at the Place de la Bastille from 9am to 1pm Thursday and Sunday.

A Paris apartment also offers couples the chance to really experience a destination like the locals as well as providing a comfortable base to really call home. So don’t worry about setting the alarm, lay in and after a relaxing breakfast, track down one of the Velib bicycle rental stations which starts at 1 Euro for an hour. Pick up a map and cycle through the Jardin des Tuileries, take photos of the Louvre and stop for lunch on the way back. Sunset views of the Paris skyline from Sacré Coeur are absolutely stunning and definitely should not be missed.

Romantic’s on a budget will also fall in love with prices this February 14th as one bedroom and studio apartments can be rented incredibly cheaply. In addition don’t worry about the apartments being someone’s “house” as many are rented exclusively to holidaymakers.

When deciding where you want to stay, be sure to look out for holiday rentals with outside space including balconies and outdoor terraces where you can really feel like you’re on holiday, enjoying meals alfresco or perhaps pre dinner drinks overlooking the river Seine.

Fine food, the Eiffel Tower and it’s associations with the beautiful movie Amelie (which stars Audrey Tautou and is set in Montmartre) all serve to elevate this popular city break destination to new heights when it comes to romantic city breaks. But to dwell on the clichés of this stunning city would only serve to cheapen the appeal of Paris, which has an incredible amount to offer. Paris apartments are likely to be very popular on valentines weekend, therefore, consider a longer trip later on in the year to appreciate all that this beautiful city has to offer!

Technology Revolutionises Vacations Rentals

January 28, 2010

We have heard this before from many travel experts that new technology such as the mobile phone will benefit the vacation rentals market and play a big part in how independent travellers will go about their business. It’s true to say that Apples innovative Iphone has certainly revolutionised mobile phone intuitiveness making it easy for the ordinary user to navigate Google Maps and search for information on the move, however, can this be improved upon and will Apples new Ipad complete the user experience?

Apple I Phone Touch Screen

Firstly, for those who are fortunate and can afford to own such devices, there is no doubt that the information available through 3g phone networks is truly powerful, however, there are still network issues and not all providers make it easy if you stay in holiday rentals abroad to access comparable 3g networks in terms of cost and accessibility. In modern developed countries, this may not be an issue, however, developing and third world countries, there is a long way to go!

For the majority of independent travellers especially those who rent a vacation rental abroad old habits in terms of referring to the guidebook or local tourist pamphlet for travel information may die hard. In addition, there is a security issue whereby it’s not a good idea in some areas especially busy cities with popular tourist attractions to publicly display your new mobile phone searching for information on the go because of the threat of pick pockets and muggers.

For the average traveller renting a self-catering holiday villa, apartment, cottage or gite, staying in touch with the outside world has now become the norm thanks to mobile technology, however, there are those who choose to turn off their devices whilst on holiday and escape the rat race, I confess I am one of those!

To summarise, I don’t think the new Ipad will revolutionise vacation rentals for the independent traveller other than improve the user experience, however, technology marches on at a pace!
